How to find Honolua Bay

This is one of our favorite snorkel spots in Maui.
It’s a bit tricky to find.  If you are lucky enough to snag a parking spot, you'll still need to complete a short hike to the shore line. The hike is easy and takes about five minutes.

Head north on Honoapiilani Hwy (route 30)  past Kapalua.

You will come across a small parking lot on the left side of the road.  This is usually marked by two porta potties - the only washrooms.    Sometimes you’ll see a local vendor selling items in the parking lot.

Parking is limited.

There is a rocky entry and there is no sand beach.  Leave your stuff on the rocks.  Snorkel tours also come to Honolua Bay, but they anchor much further out.

Here is where you'll enter the water.  If there are no other snorkels, avoid entering. Head to another spot.

As with many other snorkeling locations, it’s best to stop at this spot early in the morning when conditions are best.  If you’re here during prime-time hours, and don’t see any snorkelers in the water, it might be because the water is a little rough, stirring up the bottom and obscuring your view.

The trail and the water’s edge is inhabited by resident chickens, who will investigate and peck at any bags that you leave on shore.
